Over the last few months, HK Privat has renewed 21 national agreements. This is the English version based on the overall outcome of the collective bargaining. Please note that there may be minor differences between the various agreements. If you are in doubt as to what applies to you, you are always welcome to contact your local HK branch. The main elements

Free Choice Account

  • As per 1 March 2020, the Free Choice Account is increased by 1% to a total of 5% on top of your salary that qualifies for holiday pay.
  • As per 1 March 2021, the Free Choice Account is increased by 1% to a total of 6% on top of your salary that qualifies for holiday pay.
  • As per 1 Mar 2022, the Free Choice Account is increased by 1% to a total of 7% on top of your salary that qualifies for holiday pay.

The Free Choice Account can be used to buy senior days off, days off to care for children, for pension savings or cash disbursement, for instance in connection with holiday. As a new thing, the Free Choice Account can also be used in connection with taking children to the doctor and for the child’s entire second day of illness. The Free Choice Account can be used no more than twice per period of holiday.

Child-care leave
The entitlement to child-care leave with full pay is extended from 13 to 16 weeks from 1 July 2020. The additional 3 weeks are earmarked for the parent who does not take maternity/paternity leave. This applies to child-care leaves that start on 1 July 2020 or later.

Training and education
The parties would like employees who are dismissed due to circumstances in the company, such as cutbacks or reorganization, to be able to take training or education after expiry of the period under notice.

To qualify, the following requirements must be met:

  • You must have been accepted for training or education before expiry of the period under notice.
  • You must be unemployed when receiving training or education.
  • You must have tried to take the training or education during the period under notice.
  • The training or education must be completed not later than three months after expiry of the period under notice.
  • The Danish parliament, Folketinget, implements adaptations of relevant legislation.


Existing agreements on training and education continue unaltered during the period in which the collective agreement applies. Some agreements make the scheme permanent.

Special holidays
Please note! Different agreements may have different transitional schemes:

Most agreements include the following transitional scheme for special holidays under the new Holiday Act.

  • If you are entitled to special holidays, 6.67 special holidays will be allocated to you on 1 May 2020 to be taken before 31 December 2020.
  • 5 special holidays will be allocated to you on 1 September 2021 to be taken before 31 December 2021.
  • Separate rules apply to special holidays to which you may become entitled after 1 May 2020. Please contact your local HK branch for more information.


Under a number of agreements, it can be agreed that holiday entitlement can be obtained and holidays can be taken calculated in hours. The holiday must reflect the working week and must not be taken exclusively on long or short working days. When an employee resigns, holiday entitlement calculated in hours is converted into days.
The agreement applies from 1 September 2020.

Function-based pay
The requirements for pay determination have been extended so that the agreement on pay must specify any agreement on function-based pay as well.

Work environment representatives
Work environment representatives will have better possibilities for participation in HK courses and training.

On-call duty
In most of the collective agreements, the local parties will be able to make agreements regarding on-call duty. This means that if you are on on on-call duty and are called, the 11 hours’ resting period can be postponed. When you have finished your work in connection with the on-call duty, the resting period commences. If the resting period overlaps normal working hours, you must be paid for the number of hours overlapping your normal working hours.
Green transition and digitalization
The parties behind the agreement have agreed to focus on green transition and digitalization in the companies by supporting cooperation between management and employees.

Apprentices /KVU
Increased minimum rates per month:

  • As per 1 March 2020 on average 1.7%
  • As per 1 March 2021 on average 1.7%
  • As per 1 March 2022 on average 1.7%


Pension for apprentices between 18 and 20 years
The parties to the agreements would like apprentices to be become entitled to pension when they turn 18 years. Financing is to be by refund through AUB. However, this requires agreement with the Danish parliament, Folketinget. Almost all collective agreements contain such a recommendation.

Employees who have reached state pension age can chose to continue to pay in to the pension scheme or have the employer’s pension contribution paid out. This applies from 1 May 2020. Employees reaching state pension age on 1 May 2020 or later must make this choice before 1 May 2020. If not, payments to the pension scheme continue.

Denmark, Danish employers and employees are in a very difficult situation right now due to the corona virus, which causes new measures and initiatives every day. For this reason, it is more important than ever that we demonstrate the ability as well as the strength to make agreements ensuring decent pay and working conditions, to the benefit of employees as well as employers – also when the going gets tough.

HK Privat’s sector board is satisfied with the results of this year’s collective bargaining. That is why we urge everyone to use the possibility to vote – and to vote YES.
A number of positive elements mean considerable improvements on an everyday level for thousands of HK Privat members.

A high level of participation in the ballot makes us stronger and reinforces our bargaining position in future bargaining with the employers. To us, the most important thing is that you use your right to vote – because those who vote are the ones who decide.
