Most working adults in Denmark are members of a union or an unemployment insurance fund. It’s a great way to get help and support in your professional life, as well as having a financial safety net.
Many things in the Danish labour market are regulated not by law, but through collective agreements between employer associations and trade unions. This is often called ‘The Danish model’, which is good to know, and one of many reasons to be part of a union.
HK covers many industries - administration, graphic work, HR, IT, communication and marketing, customer service, laboratory and environmental work, management, logistics and forwarding, consulting, guidance and case management, finance, health, sales and purchasing.
Are you in doubt about whether your position and industry are covered by HK, or which sector you belong to? Contact us on 7011 4545 and we can help you.

An unemployment insurance fund offers you financial security in the labor market. If you are without a job for a period of time, as a member of an unemployment insurance fund, you are entitled to receive unemployment benefits if you meet the requirements. It is the unemployment insurance fund that pays unemployment benefits when you are unemployed, as well as holiday benefits and early retirement pay.
If you become unemployed, we offer qualified advice on job search and how to improve skills. One in two members of HK’s unemployment insurance fund is back working within 3 months.
When you are in a job, we are also there for you to strengthen your position in the labor market. This can be through courses on anything from salary negotiation, and leadership to personal development.
A trade union is a professional community where you can get help, guidance and legal advice regarding your worklife. As a member of HK you also get free access to courses and events, discounts on insurance, and other membership benefits. We know your profession, your education and the challenges you may face in your job - e.g. conflicts, work environment, salary and other working conditions. It's worth noting that salary, vacation, working hours, maternity rules, etc. are not regulated by laws. These are all decided upon in collective agreements between workplaces and trade unions. Every day,
HK works for better pay and working conditions for approx. 218,000 members. When you are part of HK, you are part of this community.
